The Dolores T. Kirk Scholarship Fund supports YWCA families with childcare tuition assistance, available to qualifying families and children in our preschool, after school, and summer camp programs. The scholarship fund pays tribute to Mrs. Kirk, her compassionate and giving nature, and her dedication to women and families in our community.
Upon moving to Wilmington in the early 1960s, Dolores and her husband Wilbur quickly involved themselves in our coastal community. Dolores became an active member of the United Methodist Women’s Club and the Mary Martha Circle of Wrightsville United Methodist Church. She organized the “Mother’s Morning Out” program, a support group created for mothers and their children. She cherished time spent with family and was a dear friend to many through her kindness and fellowship.
She served on the YWCA Board of Directors, and as Board President from 1973-1974, and was an integral player in establishing the YWCA as a women’s resource in the Cape Fear area. Her passion for empowering women and their families was evident to all who knew her and continues on to this day through the Dolores T. Kirk Scholarship Fund.
Contributions made to the fund directly support YWCA families in need of financial assistance for childcare tuition. All gifts strengthen the commitment to providing safe, affordable, and accessible childcare for women and families in our area.
