About the Bootcamp
The Girls’ Bootcamp is a two-day leadership and empowerment experience for girls ages 8–18, co-hosted by the YWCA Lower Cape Fear and Little Women of Excellence, founded by Shereese Cromartie. This dynamic weekend is designed to uplift, educate, and equip girls with the tools to thrive—socially, emotionally, and academically.
Held at GLOW Academy, the camp offers a supportive environment filled with hands-on workshops, confidence-building activities, and community connection. All facilitators and volunteers have passed background checks and adhere to the YWCA’s safety standards for youth programming.
What Campers Will Experience
We’ve curated a powerful mix of workshops to help girls build confidence, leadership, and life skills in a fun and age-appropriate way.
Presentations
Staying Aware, Staying Safe
This session teaches girls how to recognize unsafe situations, trust their instincts, and understand how people may try to take advantage of others. With a gentle introduction to the issue of human trafficking, campers will leave empowered with practical tools to protect themselves and others.
Growing Healthy Relationships
Girls will explore the qualities that make relationships respectful and uplifting—like trust, communication, and boundaries. This session helps participants build the foundation for positive friendships and future relationships that support their well-being.
Keynote: Kandace Blanks
Kandace shares her inspiring journey of overcoming obstacles and building self-worth. Through relatable stories and empowering messages, she’ll remind girls that their voices matter, their goals are valid, and their future is bright—no matter where they start.
Workshops
Healthy Hair
Confidence starts with self-care! This hands-on class teaches girls about their hair types, healthy routines, and how to try simple protective styles. It’s not just about appearance—it’s about celebrating identity and building self-love.
Fashion DIY
Creativity meets confidence in this beginner sewing and design workshop. Campers will learn basic sewing machine parts, how to fix common wardrobe issues (like replacing buttons), and walk away with their own custom mini project!
Social Media Do’s & Don’ts
This class helps campers shine online. We’ll discuss how to stay safe, create a positive digital footprint, and use social media as a platform for confidence and kindness. Girls will even explore personal branding and how to use social media to build their own voice or even a small business
Young Entrepreneurship
This session introduces campers to the three W’s of entrepreneurship: What’s your idea? Who’s it for? Why does it matter? Through creative brainstorming and real-world examples, girls will learn that they can turn passion into purpose—and business ideas into action.
