YWCA Lower Cape Fear’s Advocacy and Racial Justice Work & Committee.
The YWCA Lower Cape Fear is committed to helping individuals, organizations and companies in the Lower Cape Fear region improve race relations and find ways to eliminate racism through constructive dialogue and meaningful action.

Access to abortion stands squarely at the intersection of gender equity, young women’s empowerment, and racial justice – impacting young people’s lives.
For over 50 years, YWCA has advocated for reproductive justice and a woman’s right to make decisions about her own body. At the 1967 convention, YWCA adopted this statement:
“A Woman has the right to choose in the matter of abortion based upon her own religious and ethical beliefs and her physician’s guidance.”
Since that time, YWCA has consistently and strongly defended the rights of women and girls to have autonomy over their own bodies.
Today, YWCA Lower Cape Fear stands in solidarity with nearly 200 local YWCA associations and with YWCA USA in the belief that women and other childbearing people should have control over their own bodies. We are committed to protecting the status of other constitutional rights, such as those protecting marriage equality, intimate relationships, and the right to contraception, all of which are placed in jeopardy by this landmark decision.
Tell Your Member of Congress to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act: This decision clearly signals why we must protect providers offering abortion services and ensure abortions remain safe and accessible no matter your zip code.
Child care and early learning programs are – and will remain – essential for working families and our nation’s future economic recovery. The urgency to rebuild the childcare and early learning sector that includes retaining a skilled workforce to ensure an equitable, sustainable, childcare infrastructure is critical to meeting the needs of all women, families, and child care providers.
Join us and tell Congress: It’s time to support access to affordable, quality, childcare for all!
